Day 53: Vancouver Island: Victoria, Rainforest, Port Alberni

It rained the whole morning. When the sun came through at noon, we visited Victoria for a few hours. Very british, very civilised, quite nice.

Es regnete den ganzen Morgen in Strömen. Victoria guckten wir uns nur kurz an, als gegen Mittag die Sonne durchkam. Sehr britisch, sehr zivilisiert, ganz nett.

A mountain range divides Vancouver Island in the dry eastern and the humid western half. Here in the western part the rainfall is ten times higher. Plants grow faster, taller and more speciose.

Vancouver Island wird der Länge nach von einer Gebirgskette durchzogen, die dem westlichen Teil der Insel ein extrem feuchtes und vergleichsweise mildes Klima beschert. Hier fällt zehn mal so viel Niederschlag wie im Ostteil, die Pflanzen wachsen schneller, höher und artenreicher.

  1. actually those trees in cathedral grove are not nearly the largest found in Canada that was just a plot that had large variations of diffrent species such as douglas fur red cedar and western hemlock maybe some spruce but the majority of the REALLY big trees have all been cut down i know cause im a logger in port hardy on the north end of vancouver island all of british columbia was covered in trees like this at one point and many of them where much bigger than these trees some cedar in provincial parks up here are around 2000 years old
