Day 12: Kenora to Winnipeg

Monday, 9. July 2007, Ontario and Manitoba, Canada. Driven so far / bisher gefahren: 3540 km.

The City of Kenora was unexpectedly beautiful and with a population of 15,000 more civilized than we thought. After the wilderness of the last days it was a real change.

Die Stadt Kenora war unerwartet schön und mit 15.000 Einwohnern zivilisierter als gedacht. Nach der Wildnis der letzten Tage war es für uns schon eine Umstellung.

Today we finally passed the border to Manitoba. The highway abrubtly got worse, like highways in the former German Democratic Republic. In Manitoba we drove 200 km straightaway to Winnipeg; with cruise control and that few traffic you don’t have to do a lot.

Heute haben wir endlich die Grenze nach Manitoba überquert. Der Highway wurde schlagartig schlechter, erinnert an DDR-Autobahnen. Ab Grenzübertritt fuhren wir heute fast 200 km schnurgerade Strecke bis Winnipeg; dank Tempomat und kaum Verkehr hat man als Fahrer nicht mehr viel zu tun.

The landscape suddenly changed, too. After total wilderness and mainly untouched nature on the last 1000 km, Manitoba appears very wide, plain and agriculturally cultivated.

Auch die Landschaft änderte sich abrupt. Nach der totalen Wildnis und weitgehenden Unberührheit der Natur auf den letzten 1000 km, zeigt sich Manitoba sehr weit, sehr flach und landwirtschaftlich kultiviert.
