The Mormon Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City, capital and most populous city of Utah (180,000 inhabitants). The city was founded in 1847 far off any civilisation by Mormons who fled from persecution in the North American Midwest.
About 60% of the population of Utah are members of “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” (LDS Church), commonly called Mormons. We expected to see polygamous men with hordes of wifes, but we were badly disappointed. The church excommunicates members practising polygamy since the beginning of the 20th century. Only splinter groups of Mormon fundamentalists in the western North America still have plural marriages.
Salt Lake City – that is downtown – is a very neat place; an unfamiliar picture after many poor farmer villages in Utah. The retangular Temple Square is the centre of the city, here all important religious buildings are located. They were visitor-friendly here, on every corner someone in odd conservative clothes asked if we needed help or informations. You can walk in every building, except for the temple.
The Tabernacle is also located on Temple Square. It is used as a concert hall by the famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir today.
Inside the Tabernacle: 5.000 seats; the organ is one of the world’s largest.

Swimming in the Great Salt Lake. Because the sea has a salinity up to ten times higher than sea water you really don’t have to move to float on the water.
It smelled strange here. We don’t know if it came from the lake or the plant next to the beach…
… and thousands of insect larvae and sharp-edged salt crystals on the beach did not contribute to a real recreation. We have seen nicer beaches.
After swimming in the lake. With each move our skin felt like tearing apart.

Only the long Halloween supermarket shelves make you perceive it is already autumn here.

I live in Salt Lake City and I love it here. There are a lot of things to do and a lot of different business too. You can go hiking up the mountains, go to the lake, or find a fun group of people and just hang out.
Hope you had lunch at the Lion House, I love going there for lunch when I’m up in SLC.
